Discover the Alsace wine route by bike

Gastronomy and wine are the hallmarks of Alsace. Today, this region has one more asset: its exceptional infrastructure of cycle paths and cycle routes, which has made it one of France’s most beautiful cycling destinations. This means you can cycle a large part of the Alsace wine route in complete peace of mind. From Strasbourg to Colmar, typical villages and quiet paths through the vineyards will allow you to discover and appreciate, in addition to good food and wine, an exceptional natural environment, where tradition and history have endured.

First of all, Strasbourg. Take advantage of your visit to this historic city to stroll along its many canals, notably in the “Petite France” district, the cathedral district and the area around the European Parliament. Then set off along the Bruche canal to reach the wine route around Obernai, a superb traditional village with half-timbered houses, colorful facades and flower-filled balconies. Let yourself be guided along this cycling route through the vineyards, nestled at the foot of the Vosges mountains and dotted with many charming villages. It’s a real invitation to taste Alsace’s distinctive white wines, at the bend of a bar or at a winery, and to enjoy the local gastronomy, made up of tasty little dishes (!) and pastries that will delight your taste buds!

Your bike ride will take you to Mittelbergheim, Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr, among the most beautiful villages in France, before reaching Colmar, City of Art and Alsace Wine Capital. Don’t miss the picturesque district of “Little Venice”.

You'll enjoy :

  • Strasbourg, the European Parliament and the adorable “Petite France” district
  • Picturesque villages with colorful half-timbered houses and flowers
  • The charming wine route along the Vosges mountains
  • Colmar and its narrow streets lined with medieval buildings
  • The region’s gourmet specialties and Riesling or Gewürztraminer wines!

Daily program

Day 1 - Arrival in Strasbourg

Arrive in Strasbourg, check into your hotel and enjoy a free tour of the city. We recommend: the Cathedral, the European Institutions and picturesque districts such as Petite France.

Day 2 - Strasbourg - Obernai region

The Canal de la Bruche was once used to transport wine from the vineyards to the capital of Strasbourg. Today, the cycle path runs alongside the canal from Strasbourg to Molsheim. You’ll pass by Rosheim’s 12th-century church, before staying in Obernai or Barr.

Day 3 - Obernai region - Riquewihr region

On paved roads, you pass through vineyards and villages with half-timbered houses where geraniums bloom. Mittelbergheim, Dambach la ville, Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr are among France’s most beautiful villages.

Day 4 - Riquewihr region - Colmar

The Wine Route and its string of villages will take you from the vineyards to the wine and art capital of Alsace. Turckheim and Eguisheim will conclude your discovery of Alsace like a postcard. Arrive in Colmar, home to the sculptor of the Statue of Liberty, Bartholdi, and the Renaissance painters Martin Schoengauer and Matthias Grünewald.

Day 5 - Departure

Departure after breakfast. Regular rail links between Colmar and Strasbourg if required.
