This horse riding holiday near Paris will surprise you by the quality and the diversity of its landscapes. Prestigious castles, state-owned forests, deep forests, deserts, rocks, historical sites, rivers, ponds and small inns. You could maybe see harts, roebucks or boars. as well.

Our ride will start in the region of Melun and the castle of Vaux Le Vicomte, then the castle of Courance via the forest of Fontainebleau, the church of Saint-Sulpice de Favière near Saint-Chéron, the castle of Le Marais. Via the wood, we will arrive at Rambouillet and the Haute vallée de Chevreuse. We will by-pass finally the state-owned forest of Versailles and will see the majestic Palace of Versailles.

Day 1: Welcome

 

At the Melun train station, around 5 p.m.  Welcome and transfer to the Germenoy Hotel** in Vaux Le Penil. Evening visit to the Château of Vaux le Vicomte.  Built by Nicolas Fouquet in 1615, this château was Louis 14th’s model for the Château of Versailles.

 

Day 2: Forest of Fontainebleau

 

Leave on horseback around 10 a.m. for the Fontainebleau forest.  Picnic lunch in the forest and visit of the Apromont Gorge.  End the day in Fontainebleau.

 

Day 3: Toward Huisseau Longueville

 

Leave around 10 a.m., head into the forest.  Picnic lunch at the Château of Courance, followed by a tour of the gardens (some of the most beautiful in France) that were built in the 16th century.  Afternoon ride through historic forested countryside.

Night at a B&B in Huisseau Longueville.

 

Day 4: From Huisseau Longueville to Saint-Chéron

 

Leave Huisseau Longueville, riding through rolling hills interspersed with small forests.  Picnic lunch at the Château of Chamarande, followed by a self-guided tour of the property and the château, with its collection of contemporary artwork.  Afternoon visit of the Church of Saint Sulpice de Favière.  This sanctuary, one of the most beautiful in the region, was built in the 13th century.  End the day in Saint Cheron at a small hotel.>

 

Day 5: From Saint-Chéron to Rambouillet - Regional Natural park of the High Valley of Chevreuse

 

We’ll ride through several woods.  As we ride past the Château of the Marais (18th century), we’ll have an opportunity to see the mirror of water and perhaps to ride around the château property.  Picnic lunch at the Cense Stud Farm, which uses the practices of Monty Roberts, famous for his methods of training horses.  The film “The Horse Whisperer” made this practice popular in France.

After riding through the forest of Rambouillet, we will end the day at the Saint Charles Hotel**.

 

Day 6: From Rambouillet to Magny

 

Leave Rambouillet around 10 a.m. for the Abbey of Vaux de Cernay, founded in the 12th century by the Cistercien monks.  Visit of the ruins.  Picnic lunch at the Breteuil château, followed by a visit of the château.  Afternoon ride through rolling hills surrounding Versailles.  Ride past Chevreuse.

Night at a B&B in Magny les Hameaux.

 

Day 7: Versailles… its state-owned forest and its castle

 

We will continue to ride through the wonderful forest of Versailles, dotted with lakes.  We will ride to Suisses lake where we will glimpse a view of the magnificent château of Versailles.  During the afternoon, we will return to our B&B in Magny la forêt.

 

Day 8 :Departure or Visit of the palace of Versailles

 

Around 10 a.m., transfer riders to Versailles, either to the château for a tour or to the train station.
